Après le Festival de Cannes, le New York Film Critics Circle, les Prix Lumières et les Golden Globes, The Artist continue de rafler des prix.
Cette nouvelle récompense, le ‘Darryl F. Zanuck Award’, pour ‘The Artist’ confirme le statut de favori du film dans la course aux Oscars. Dans son discours de remerciements, Thomas Langmann, producteur du film, a simplement déclaré qu’avec son ‘bébé’, lui et son équipe voulaient juste « écrire une lettre d’amour au cinéma américain ». « Nous n’avons jamais imaginé que nous pouvions gouter au rêve américain », a-t-il rajouté. Prochaine étape, les BAFTA britanniques (12 nominations), et ensuite, la cérémonie ultime … celle des Oscars.
Thomas Langmann, 40 ans, est le fils du défunt réalisateur et producteur Claude Berri et d’Anne-Marie Rassam. Ainsi, dès son plus jeune âge, il a baigné dans le septième art. C’est face à Catherine Deneuve et Gérard Depardieu qu’il fait ses débuts devant la caméra, à huit ans, dans ‘Je vous aime’, réalisé par son paternel. Adolescent, Thomas se distingue dans ‘Les Années sandwiches’ (1988) et ‘Paris s’éveille’ (1991). Pour sa performance dans ces deux films, il est même nommé aux Césars dans la catégorie Meilleur Espoir.
Mais le métier d’acteur ne lui convient pas, et à 24 ans, Thomas lance sa propre maison de production : ‘La Petite Reine’. Par la suite, il se consacre à l’adaptation de la bande dessinée Astérix. C’est son père qui prendra en charge le projet et sa suite, ‘Astérix et Obélix : mission Cléopâtre’ avec Alain Chabat derrière la caméra. Thomas Langmann réalise et produit lui-même en 2008 ‘Astérix aux Jeux Olympiques’.
Sinon, on doit à ce jeune producteur plusieurs films à succès dont les plus notables sont : la saga Mesrine -L’Instinct de mort et L’Ennemi public n° 1-, ‘La Nouvelle Guerre des boutons’, ‘Le Mac’, et bien sûr ‘The Artist’.
